L I F E / Lots of love

Image
New year's is my favourite celebration ( for the same reasons as Monday is my favourite day of the week) : a clean slate, new beginnings, dreams, enthusiasm and big plans. Though this year I'm planning for less. Instead of aiming to do more of this or that I'm going to simplify and minimise more. Reduce my stuff, reduce the amount of obligations and focus on fewer things. Goodbye 2013, you were fantastic. A year filled with a lot of exciting project and a lot of lovely people and I got into a mosh pit for the first time and survived. Leaving you with some images from my tumblr curation for SHOWstudio from earlier this year. Wishing you all lots of love and inspiration for 2014 Cheers! SHOWstudio

I N T E R I O R / Sunday Office

Image
Meet my Sunday office. These snapshots literally show that there is no clear line between my work and personal life. Though everyone seems to say that you shouldn't mix business with pleasure, I have no intent to separating the two. (btw, feel so incredibly lucky to be working together with my wonder boy Romeo more often next year). Instead of the usual office hours on Monday to Friday from 9 to 5, I forget about the hours that get poured into my projects or how much cash they will bring in. It all becomes more about pushing your own skills and the quality of your work itself instead of how it will pay off. Currently planning things for 2014 and it is so exciting! Workaholic is such a negative term for someone who dedicates time to something, or better said forgets about time. Being unproductive and doing nothing stresses me out more than long to do lists and when inspiration comes I like to take advantage of it and act on it while it is still fresh; even if it's 2 ...

W E A R I N G / Quick Christmas update / hope no one is reading this

Image
Hope that everyone got what they wanted for Christmas, is surrounded by friends and family and is eating lots of delicious food instead of reading this blog post. But for the ones who are working, for some reason can't be with their friends, that is totally fine as well. Tradition says we all MUST be have a fantastic time, look great, be perfect, have the perfect gifts on the 25th and 26th of December. If all those things aren't happening on these exact dates, who cares? There is no reason for it not to come together on any other random day of the year. A reduced wardrobe is finally starting to pay off, in time. I got dressed in under 15 minutes, and have a spare half our for this quick update. Now off to a get myself into a food coma. Merry-whatever everyone! dress: Cheap Monday (old) ( similar ) necklace: &Other Stories (old) bracelet: thrifted

L I F E / Minimalistic, Vegan, Coconut, Vanilla Cubes

Image
I love this recipe for how minimalistic and uncomplicated it is; only four ingredients, very few steps, very little time and it is vegan (meat/dairy production wastes natural resources). Usually I like my food as colorful as possible, but these creamy vanilla coconut cubes just screamed Love Aesthetics. So here it is; my first ever food related blog post! I am not a very good cook so don't expect more recipes, but these are so easy to make and the result is so beautifully that I could not not share this with you guys. Ingredients explained/ Agar Agar is an Malaysian/Inonesian desert, very similar to jelly pudding with a sightly more bitable texture, if made with water it is incredibly thirst quenching. Though unlike gelatin jelly which is an animal product (made out of animal bones and pig skin), Agar Agar is plant based made out of seaweed. It comes in a variety of colors and flavors but for this recipe you'll need the flavorless, colorless kind (avoiding all the artif...

W E A R I N G / See Through Coat

Image
Have been eyeing this long, matte, plastic coat for -literally- years. But for some reason, every time I go into a Muji I become completely obsessed by all the stationary and forget about the rain coat. While visiting my mom in Germany last week, I made a special stop at their Dusseldorf store to finally pick it up. The rainy weather made sure I didn't forget about it this time. Though I'm not only wearing it specifically for the weather it was made for as you can see, I like how the futuristic frosted plastic adds a bit of high tech to a simple jeans and sweatshirt and creates so much visual depth. One honest little negative point on it though; after using it a couple of times the plastic becomes scratched and wrinkled and doesn't stay as smooth as when it was fresh out of the package. An entirely different subject; the rare winter sun. So lucky to have caught a glimpse of it. The light at this time of year is so different because of the low position of the sun; ma...

B E A U T Y / NYE Hair: Slicked Back Glitter

Image
This is what I'm planning to do with my hair on the last night of 2013 to celebrate and say goodbye to this fantastic year. It's still unsure what I'll be wearing on NYE, but I can already foresee that it will be something basic and plain. Instead of adding accessories, I like to experiment with cosmetics instead. Doesn't mean it requires much time (if only we had more time), special skill or many products; just one simple, radical plan; like covering every single hair in sparkles! I love to put tacky, cheap things in a different context. Here's what I did 1/ Apply a big blob of gel on your finger tips and run it through the roots of your hair. Repeat until the front and top part of your hair are looking evenly 'wet'. 2/ Comb your hair to the back, distributing the gel even more. 3/ With a soft brush smooth out the hair from front to back with long strokes and put it into a low ponytail. 4/ Let it dry for a couple of minutes. 5/ Take out the hair ...

A C C E S S O R I E S / Favorite Footwear

Image
Dear shoes, The fact that you're not getting picked as often anymore in the morning doesn't mean I don't love you the most. I am leaving you safely in the wardrobe to protect you from the muddy boots in the busy trains that will damage your delicate materials and the splatters coming off the wet concrete as the wheels of my bike ride over it. Just knowing that I have you guys (and I recognize that this is a strange form of greed), is enough for me; I don't even mind wearing the wrong shoe. Every single pair of these involved a search, a long wait, the feeling of -if only I had this pair in to complete this outfit- in the morning and lastly; finding them on a strange corner of the internet or coming across them on an unexpected place. So happy to have this little collection, this is my favorite footwear. Nike Cortez here Tibi Shane heels Dr. Martens '2011 ( similar ) Nike Air Max 1 glow in the dark

D I Y / Architectural, Origami, Marble Christmas Trees

Image
Some temporary objects to decorate your apartment with. It is almost magical to see a flat piece of paper take on architectural shapes by adding a few well placed folds. After picking up a book on origami at the library, my kid and I got to folding some paper Christmas trees. Though the end result of these trees was quite cute, I liked them more when they were half way finished and didn't want to keep folding and cutting the paper into an obvious pine tree shape. / Stick the adhesive marble foil on half of your paper.(optional) / Fold your paper in half both ways and diagonally, creating four creases as shown on the third image. The bigger the paper, the better. I used a square of 50cm x 50cm. / Bring two opposite corners together and fold them inwards creating a small square as shown on the fourth image. / Fold the two outer corners towards the middle crease creating a kite shape, do this on both sides. It should look like image number five now. / Open up the entire thi...

L I F E / Visting &Other Stories

Image
This specific mood and aesthetics of theirs is not set up by some stylist in an empty studio. The &Other Stories headquarters look exactly like their campaigns, shops and online store; the concrete floors throughout are recognizable from the uniform way they photograph their products and there are traces (in the form of silver balloons clinging to the ceiling) of photoshoots that took place in the office space. The headquarters consist of two large floors with desks and computers on the sides and all kinds of experimenting tables down the middle; on which tests with paint are being done, moodboards are arranged, new beauty products are being tested, and developing products are being displayed. There is literally creativity everywhere you look. Last month Romeo and I were invited into the Stockholm ateliers to participate in their co-creatives project. Along with a group of other creatives from all different fields(DJ's, editors, artists, models, film makers), we were a...

W E A R I N G / Shades Of White

Image
One of those thrift finds that doesn't need any adjustments, is not missing any buttons, is not stained and don't even have a funny secondhand smell. I asked myself if anyone has ever worn these trousers at all or if they have just been lying forgotten in the back of someone's closet since the late 80's. I got them for only 3 at Think Twice , a vintage shop in Antwerp. bomber: Weekday trousers: vintage ( similar ) iPhone case: Pantone pouch: Jil Sander trainers: glow in the dark Air Max 1 (also comes in Thea )

L I F E / Eastpak Artist Studio - Ivania Carpio

Image
Last week the international launch of all the Eastpak Artist studio bags took place in Antwerp; a project in which selected artists from 14 countries projected their vision and creativity on the classic Eastpak Pak'r Backpack. All proceeds of the sales will go to charity organization Designers Against Aids. It was an honor to be asked to participate and a lot of fun to come up with a concept and make my backpack. 'Customizing' the bag by adding decorations without a clear function or a purpose did not make sense to me. When I got the classic Eastpak Pak'r backpack to do whatever way I wanted to it; my first thought was that this was actually already a great design; the ultimate, basic, archetypical backpack. So I chose to make a few small yet radical changes to the bag; I changed the solid back of the bag for clear perspex and moved the outside pocket to the inside. This way only the wearer can see what's inside and the outside is left completely bare. I want...

W E A R I N G / Everyday

Image
Like being wrapped in a cozy thick blanket, is what wearing this coat feels like. I wore it to Antwerp earlier this week, where the backpack I designed for Eastpak Artist studio was launched(more on that soon). This outfit isn't more more than a compilation of basics; jeans, tee, sneakers. But so incredibly comfortable for going about the city that it's the second time I wear this exact combination in one week.
